11/17/12: Arkansas/Oklahoma All-Stars Meet, Rogers High School, Rogers, AR:  The Arkansas Boys won a solid victory by 79-109 with an average 5k time of 16:27 versus 16:47 for the Sooner State. Grant Williams (Lake Hamilton) led the Natrual State harriers with the individual win at 16:11. The two teams split the Top12 but Arkansas took the next eight places. The meet scores the first nine runners from each team to finish. Cody Jones (Oklahoma) was 2nd in 16:17 and Daniel Evans (Shiloh Christian, Springdale, AR) was 3rd in 16:23.  Oklahoma turned the tide in the Girls 5k race with a 72-99 win behind a 1-2-3 finish by Regan Ward (18:17.70), Sydney Lawrence (18:55) and Abby Hoover (18:59). The top Arkansas runner was Hannah Raney in 4th at 19:22. Ward's time was just off the course record of 18:09 held by Maggie Montoya of Rogers who did not run in the meet. The Sooner Girls averaged 19:27 while the Naturals averaged 19:47.  Click here for Boys results and here for Girls.

11/3/12: Wal-Mart Central Arkansas Junior High Meet, Cabot High School:  Bryant placed 8 of the Top 11 in the 3200m 9-team Junior Boys meet to cruise to a 24-89-94 win over Cabot and Lake Hamilton.  The Junior Lady Wolves won the 10-team Junior Girls meet by 62-77-88 over Bryant and Conway.  Boys  Girls

10/30/12: Mountie Classic, 7A West Conference, Rogers High School: Rogers Maggie Montoya took a run around her home course and posted the best ever 5k by an Arkansas high school female. After taking a clear lead by the 1200m mark, Montoya cruised through a 5:31 first mile, passed the two miles in 11:31 and finished 42 seconds ahead of 2nd for a stunning 18:09.7 good enough for a meet and course record. However, Montoya's feat was not enough to keep crosstown rival Rogers Heritage from taking the 7A West win by 41-72-73 over Rogers and Bentonville in the 8-team Senior Girls meet. Herittage averaged 19:38 with a Top 5 spread of 1:25 while Rogers tallied 19:53/2:45 and Bentonville came in at 20:07/1:19. Dierdre Sheets (Heritage) passed the mile mark at the back of the trailing pack but made a strong move and by Mile 2 was a solid second and pulled away for 2nd place in a very fine 18:51.3. Rebekkah Gibbons (Van Buren) also broke from the trail pack in the 2nd mile and posted a superb 18:58.7 for 3rd. The Top 12 runners were under 20 minutes.  Bryant, who was required to make the long trip to Rogers, scored 94 to finish a solid 4th.  In the 8-team Senior Boys meet, Bentonville (16:36/1:17) put on show and ran to a 33-47-48 win over Rogers (16:49/1:22) and Springdale Har-Ber (16:55) who had a very strong 55 second spread.  Jacon Shiohira (Bentonville) won the race in a very fine 15:54.9 followed by Dino Andradde (Springdale Har-Ber) at 16:18.7 and Taylor Bryant (Rogers) at 3rd in 16:19.0. Shiohira led the pack through a 4:58 first mile and took the Top 3 through 2 Miles in 10:23 before surging the next 1200m to forge the winning margin. In the 17-team Junior Girls Meet over 3200m Bentonville Gold won by 60-71-103 over Rogers Heritage and Springdale Central. Elise Reina (Central) won the individual race in a  superb 11:49, a little bit off the meet record held by older sister Valerie Reina.  The 17-team Junior Boys meet, Fayetteville Woodland took the team win by 55-75-91 over Rogers and Springdale Central. 10/30/12: 3A-1 District, Rogers High School:  Elkins won the dual Boys meet over Green Forest by 19-36 and won the triangular Girls meet by 29-47-52 over Greenland and Green Forest. Elkins Boys posted an average of 18:39 with a Top 5 spread of 2:24 and the Lady Elks achieved a 23:39/1:42.  Ben Goodnight (Elkins) won the Boys 5k in 17:42 and Kristen Larkan (Greenland) took the Girls race in 21:47.  Go here for Boys results and here for Girls results. The 3A-1 meet was run as part of the Mountie Classic meet but scored separately.

10/30/12: Mountie Classic, Rogers High School: DeQueen took a trip north up Highway 71 and made it worthwhile with two trophies in the Class 6A and Under Senior Boys and Senior Girls 5k meet.  The Leopards won the 4-team Girls meet by 28-56 over Huntsville and the 4-team Senior Boys meet by 29-45 over Harrison. The Boys averaged 18:40 with an excellent 47 second Top 5 spread; the Girls achieved 22:24/1:10. Tiffany Binam (Huntsville) led from nearly the start to win in 21:31. Daniel Evans (Shiloh Christian) took the early lead and crossed the Mile 1 mark in a solid 5:02 and ran alone the rest of the way with a 10:28 2 Mile for the win in 16:40.9.   The 27th Annual Mountie Classic included a 6A and Under Meet which included the 3A-1 District meet, the 7A West Conference Meet and the NWA Junior Meet with a total of 1,072 finishers. 10/30/12: 6A South Conference, Oaklawn Park, Hot Springs: While Bryant was heading north, the Siloam Springs Panthers headed south for its first 6A Conference meet and the Lake Hamilton Wolves. The Panthers, who haved been a 5A power in recent years, carried the Benton County flag into the Wolves den where few escape victorious. True to form, Lake Hamilton took the double win as the Lady Wolves won by 25-46 over Siloam and the Wolves whipped Siloam by 18-42. Grant Williams (Lake Hamilton) won the individual title over the 5k course in 16:44 as Siloam's Matt Odom clocked 17:17.29 to edge by Cain Farnam (Lake Hamilton) in 17:17.48. Angel Crawford (Lake Hamillton) won the Girls 5k in a solid 19:50 over teammate Cassidy Turner in 20:35.  The Wolves averaged 17:30 with a Top 5 spread of 1:18 and the Lady Wolves tallied 20:46 and 1:56.   Lake Hamilton and Siloam Springs placed a combined 18 of the Top 20 finishers in the Boys race and 22 of the Top 23 finishers in the Girls race.

10/29/12:7A East/Central Conference, Cabot:  In a new twist to the 6A/7A split format, the 7A East/Central Conference was without perennial powerhouse Bryant as the Hornets were required to make the long march to Rogers to compete in the 7A West Conference Meet.  Meanwhile, host Cabot eaked out a win in the Senior Girls 5k by 33-37 over Mount St Mary's while LR Catholic was on cruise control with a dominating win by 20-62 over Cabot in the Senior Boys. The Lady Panthers averaged a solid  20:46 with a Top spread of 2:00 in their win. The  Rockets averaged a very fine state meet ready 16:39 with a fanstatsic 18 second spread. Micah Huckabee (Cabot) won the Girls race in a very nice 19:31 as Cally Cochran (MSM) was 2nd in 20:06. What must be one of the closest finishes ever in Arkansas XC history, the Senior Boys Top 3 crossed within a mere 1.17 seconds. Noah Findlay (Catholic) won in 16::32.53 edging out teammate Colin O'Mara (16:32.87) and Scott Foltz (Cabot, 16:33.70).  The Rockets placed 10 in the Top 12 runners.   Senior Girls    Seniior Boys

10/25/12:  5A West Conference, Harrison: Huntsville slipped by host Harrison in the 5-team Senior Girls 5k by 33-42. The Lady Eagles averaged 24:49 with a Top 5 spread of a dangerously wide 5:22. In the 6-team Senior Boys Harrison edged out Vilonia by 52-56. The Goblins averaged 20:13 with a 2:56 spread while the Eagles averaged 20:28 and a 2:39 spread. Vilonia swept the junior races by winning the 4-team, Junior Girls by 37-47 over Shiloh Christian and the 5-team Junior Boys by 36-59 over Harrison. Daniel Evans (Shiloh) won the Senior Boys with a casual 18:20 and Emily Phillips (Hunstville) crossed in 22:10 for the title.

10/20/12: Lake Hamilton CC Invite, Oaklawn Park, Hot Springs: 

Little Rock Catholic raced to a convincing win in the 39-team Senior Boys 5k by 57-107-132 over Bossier City (La) Parkway and Bryant. The Rockets averaged a solid 16:53 for their Top 5 with a modest 1:09 Top 5 spread. Noah Findlay (Catholic) took a narrow individual win over Elijah Knight (Russellville) by 16:09-16:11.  Rogers Heritage made the long trip south and returned home with a the top trophy in the 28-team Senior Girls 5k by 57-77-100 over Van Buren and Bryant. The Lady War Eagles averaged 20:13. Alison Ringle (Bossier City) captured individual honors at a quick 18:43 while Kyandra Chandler (Nettleton) was 2nd in 19:05. The Senior Boys had nine runners under 17 minutes and the Senior Girls put six under 20 minutes. LR Catholic led by Connor Greene in 1st at 17:28 cruised to a win in the 15-team Boys JV 5k by 22-58 over Bryant. Haas Hall took the win in the 5-team Girls JV by 30-35 over Bossier City. London Martin (Lake Hamilton) won the JV race in 22:34. Conway took the 21-team Junior Girls race by 53-82-84 over Bryant and Lake Hamilton while Bryant won the 18-team Junior Boys by 49-85-120 over Vilonia and Conway.

10/20/19: 2A-1 District, Magazine:     Results

Magazine snuck into the Senior Girls title by 37-41-42 over Hackett and Johnson County Westside while Eureka Springs cruised to the Senior Boys win by 20-45-55 over Magazine and JC Westside. Magazine led after each runner of the Senior Girls as the Lady Rattlers took home their 5th consecutive district title.  Shelby Gordon (Magazine) won the 5k race in 20:48 as freshman teammate Kaitlynn Ryan was 2nd in 21:24. Eureka was led by Nathan Andress and Jake McClung in a 1-2 finish at 18:01 and 18:09. Magazine won the Junior Girls 1.5 mile race after leading by one after two runners, took a three point lead after three, found themselves tied after four and won with the 5th runner.  Mountainburg took the Junior Boys with a perfect 15 score. Amy Tan (Hackett) won the Junior Girls race in 9:07 with a spirited dual down the finish pulling away late. Robert Lefever (Eureka Springs) won the Junior Boys by  40m in 8:24.

10/19/12: Chile Pepper Festival: 

Jacob Shiohira (Bentonville) led the Arkansas Boys in the 64-team Senior Boys Invite race with a sterling 15:30 for 5k good for 5th while Noah Findlay (LR Catholic) was 13th in 16:11.  Maggie Montoya (Rogers) on an off day took 8th in the 54-team Senior Girls Invite at a solid 18:30. while Deirdre Sheets (Rogers Heritage) was 11th in 18:52. Elise Reina (Springdale Central) won the 32-team Junior Girls 5k race in a spiffy 19:12 as Natalia Franco (West Fork) was 3rd in 20:27. Oliver Perez (Rogers) won the 36-team Junior Boys 5k in 17:10.

In team competition, Rogers Heritage (5th) edged out cross town rival Rogers (6th)  in the Senior Girls Invite by 191-193. Bentonville took #2 overall in the Senior Boys Invite  as Rogers was 7th and LR Catholic was 8th. Bentonville Gold won the Junior Girls over Siloam Springs by 76-112 while Rogers took the Junior Boys in a whale of a race over Fayetteville Woodland, Springdale Central and Bentonville Black by 121-122-124-129.

10/16/12: 3rd XC Coaches Poll:   Poll Results

Poll results for all classifications with some familiar leaders and some surprises. Lots of 7A-West and Benton County teams at or near the top is nothing new....Heber Springs, DeQueen and Lake Hamilton at top for both Boys and Girls....

10/6/12: Cyclone Invitational, Russellville:    Results

The 17-team Senior Girls 5K was a barnburner as Little Rock Christian edged past Bryant and Lake Hamilton by 50-51-58.  LRC averaged 20:30 with a 1:40 spread while Bryant and Lake Hamilton came in at 20:36 and 20:46. Hannah Raney (Bryant) led six runners under 20 minutes with a solid 19:39 just ahead of Angel Crawford (Lake Hamilton) at 19:43, Randi Ferguson (LRC) at 19:44 and Melinda Murdock (Bryant) at 19:46.  LR Catholic rocketed past the field in the 19-team Senior Boys 5k over Lake Hamilton, Russellville and Bryant by 26-102-108-126. The Rockets averaged 16:25 with a fantastic 32 second spread.  Lake Hamilton averaged 17:09 while Russellviile was close behind 17:13. Grant Williams (Lake Hamilton) sped to the win in 15:58 with Noah Findlay (LR Catholic) 2nd at 16:06 and teammate Colin O'Mara 3rd at 16:12. Lake Hamilton won the 14-team Junior Boys 2 Mile race by 55-80-92 over Bryant and Vilonia and also won the 16-team Junior Girls by 60-68-126 over Bryant and Pulaski Academy.

10/2/12: Rogers Elementary and Middle School CC Races              Results

Over 300 runners finished the six races at the Rogers Mounties Course at Rogers HS with runners from K- 8th grade..

9/29/12: Van Buren XC Classic      Results

A whopping 853 runners finished the four races with host Van Buren winning the 11-team Senior Girls 5k by 22-60-104 over Fayetteville and Rogers. Lady Pointer Rebekah Gibbons (21:20) led a 1-2-3-4 finish for the home team. In the 11-team Senior Boys, Rogers placed five in the Top 11 to win by 31-38-95 over Springdale Har-Ber and Russellville. Dino Andrade (Har-Ber, 17:29) took the individual crown. Rogers also won the 15-team Junior Girls 3200m by 74-84-91 over Rogers Oakdale Middle School and  Springdale Central. With a 1-2 and four in Top 10 finish Faetteville Woodland took the 18-team Junior Boys by 44-58-91 over Springdale Central and Springdale George.

9/25/12: Rattler Run, Magazine      Results

The 6th Annual Rattler Run was so different than in years past; it was HOT! On a hot (95 degrees) and humid afternoon 13 schools decided to hit the trails for competition. The 1.5 mile Junior Girls races were competitive individually but slightly dominated in team scoring. Pottsville ran away from the crowd in the girls race. Three girls, Janessa Jay of Pottsville, Skylar Campbell of Pottsville and Kaitlynn Ryan of Magazine ran together for the first mile but Ray distanced herself in the final 400 meters pulling away.

9/22/12: Rim Rock Farm Classic, Lawrence, KS       Senior Boys   Senior Girls

Arkansas was well represented at the annual Rim Rock Farm Classic run over the famous Bob Timmons Course among the rolling farmland and covered bridges near Lawrence, Kansas. In the 32-team Senior Boys Gold 5k race (224 finishers), Rogers finished 3rd with 202 and Bentonville was 4th at 249. The Mounties averaged 16:30 over the 5k course with a solid 1:09 spread while the Tigers came across in 16:40 and 1:19. SO Christian Liddell (Rogers) finished a superb 6th with a sizzling time of 15:40.80 while JR Parker Dey (Bentonville, 16:32.90) was 38th and SO Austin Salazar (Rogers, 16:39.70) was 46th. Rogers Heritage snuck up for 9th overall in the 28-team Senior Girls Gold race (189 finishers)  just ahead of Rogers at 10th. The Lady War Eagles edged the cross town Lady Mounties by 281-284. Bentonville was 23rd with a score of 606. Heritage averaged 16:12 over the 4k course with a spread of 1:47 while Rogers achieved 16:06/2:04 and bentonville came is at 17:30/2:30. SR Maggie Montoya (Rogers) was a strong 3rd overall in a fabulous 14:34.10 (4:50 per mile) as JR Dierdre Sheets (Heritage) was 18th in 15:25.50 and SO Kesley Brown (Heritage) clocked 15:55.50 for 36th.

9/22/12: Caddo Hills Invitational   Results

Host Caddo Hills won three of the four races and LR Catholic edged by Lake Hamiton in Large Schools (5A and larger) Senior Boys by 23-32. Caddo won both the Small School (4A and below) Junior Boys and Junior Girls while Lake Hamilton took the Large School junior races. In the 3-team Small Schools Senior Boys, Caddo defended home turf with a 32-36 win over Arkadelphia. Bismarck won the Small Schools Senior Girls dual meet by 17-38 over Jessieville and Lake Hamilton cruised to a 19-49 win in the 4-team Large School Senior Girls over Hot Springs Lakeside. SR Grant Williams (Lake Hamilton, 16:50) won the Senior Boys 5k while JR Angel Crawford (Lake Hamilton, 21:38) nipped teammate Lindsey Mills (21:45) in the Senior Girls 5k.

9/13/12: Bryant Invitational           Senior Boys    Senior Girls    Junior Boys    Junior Girls

The creek did rise in Bryant and washed out a bridge causing the 5k races to be shortened to only 2.82 miles and the Hornets kept all but one trophy at home. Bryant won the 8-team Junior Boys meet by 56-67-70 over LR Catholic and Vilonia and took the 6-team Junior Girls by 19-79-82 over Russellville and Pulaski Academy. Matthew Foote (LR Catholic) won the Junior Boys 2 Mile race in a nice 10:52. The Lady Hornets then won the 2.82M 12-team Senior Girls meet by 47-58-85-121 over Cabot, Mount St Mary's amd North Little Rock.  Micah Huckabee (Cabot) won the Senior Girls in 17:31 (about 19:15 for 5k) followed by Hannah Raney of host Bryant in 17:58 (about 19:45 for 5k). In the 15-team Senior Boys meet, LR Catholic schooled the field finishing an impressive 1-3-5-6-7 to take a 22-91-98-102 win over Bryant, DeQueen and Russellville. Noah Findlay cruised to the overall individual win in a fast 14:12 which is about 15:36 for 5k. Teammates  William Lambert clocked 14:43 (about 16:10, 3rd), Brendan Taylor crossed in 14:49 (about 16:17, 5th) and Gabe Lodge timed 14:49 (about 16:28, 6th). Elijah Knight (Russellville) was solid 2nd in 14:26 (about 15:51) while 4th went to Zack McGinnis (LR Episcopal) in 14:45 (about 16:13).

9/11/12: Magazine Invitational       Results

On a nice sunny afternoon, Greenwood won three of four 1.5 mile races over the Rattler CC Course but Acorn set the course record. Greenwood won the 6-team Junior Boys by 39-42-112 over Dardanelle and Waldron and won the 7-team Junior Girls by 76-84-99 over Dardanelle and host Magazine. The Bulldogs won the 7-team Senior Boys by 45-76-80 over Waldron and Acorn as Dylan Brown (Waldron, 7:41) took invidiual honors just ahead of Mark Dement (Paris, 7:44). Acorn spoiled Greenwood's clean sweep with a 40-58 win over Greenwood in the 4-team Senior Girls. Krystan Fagan led Acorn home with the individual win in 8:51, a new course record.

9/11/12: 1st Coaches Poll

Poll

Only enough votes cast in Class 7A and Top 10 Overall. Rogers and Bentonville rank 1-2 in 7A Girls and in Top 10 with 6A Lake Hamilton in a close 3rd. In 7A Boys, Bentonville edges out Rogers and LR Catholic. For Boys Top 10 Overall, Rogers slips into the top spot with Bentomnville in 2nd and Catholic in 3rd.  6A Lake Hamilton comes in at 5th and 5A LR Christian at 6th.

9/6/12: Carthage (MO) Invitational

Nixa (MO) won both the Biys and Girls senior races as Rogers Heritage took 3rd in the Boys and 2nd in Girls follwoed by Fayetteville in 3rd. Deirdre Sheets (Rogers Heritage) won the Senior Girls 5k race in 20:57.62 while teammate Kelsey Brown crossed in 21:52.40 for 3rd. The top Arkansas boy was Sebastian Thomas (Fayetteville) at 18:48 in 8th.

9/1/12: Shiloh Christian Invitational, Springdale

Haas Hall won the Girls 1-3A Division by 21-24 over Green Forest and took teh Boys by 22-49 over Elkins. Vilonia pulled the double wn inn 4/5A with a 24-60-61 win over Gentry and host Shiloh Christian in Boys and by 28-35 over Gentry in Girls. Then Rogers ended the double wins as the Mounties won over Bentonville and Springdale Har-ber by 29-39-86 while thh Lady Mounties slipped in by 32-36-96 over Bentonville and Fayetteville. Maggie Montoya (Rogers) blistered the 5k course in 18:54.10 with teammate Eden Randolph  next at 21:24 followed by Morgan Spychalski (Bentonnville, 21:32) and Emily Phillips (Husntville, 21:41) who won the 4/5A Division. In the Boys 5k. Christian Liddell (Rogers) cruised to the 6/7A Division win in 16:33 ahead of Jacob Shiohira (Bentonville, 16:51.70). Daniel Evans (Shiloh Christian) clocked 17:51.50 to win the 4/5A Division.

8/25/12: Adams Brown Road Mile, Pearcy  - Combined

Nearly 150 runners finished the annual road mile sponsored by Lake Hamilton HS and Grant Williams (Lake Hamilton) led all runners at 4:45 just head of team mate Taylor Werst at 4:48. Angel Crawford led four Lady Wolves under six mminutes with a new Seniors Girls record at 5:47 trailed by Breana Darnley at 5:53. New records wre also set in the elementary 1/2 mile race for both Boys and Girls.

8/25/2012: 27th Rogers Eliminator 5K Run - Men's Overall   Women's Overall   Men's Age Group     Women's Age Group

 Maggie Montoya (Rogers HS, senior) set a women's new course record on the rugged Eliminator 5K course in 19:38.65 on a nice 70 degree day with overcast. Montoya bested her previous record of 19:47.49.  Deirdre Sheets (Rogers Heritage HS) took 2nd in 20:46. Christian Liddell (Rogers HS) won the men's race in 17:20.01 with Mountie teammate Taylor Bryant clocking 17:58 for 2d. Although the race is not scored for teams, in dual meet scoring Rogers would have won over Rogers Heritage by 18-52 for the Boys and by 23-40 for the Girls. The leading top young runners were Jacob Mankin (Rogers HS, age 14, 8th overall, 18:48), Emily Efurd (Kirksey Middle School, age 12, 10th overall, 23:13) and Jamison Maass (Kirksey MS, age 10, 20th ovrall, 2445).  The race saw 264 competitors from all age groups finish the course.

              

The Junior Boys race was the most exciting of the day as Alex Her of Waldron and Jose Castalano of Dardanelle battled the entire way to the finish line with Her prevailing in a new Jr. Boys meet record 7:54 (8:00 Dustin Chasteen of Jasper). Dardanelle won the team standings with three runners finishing in the Top 5.

The Senior Girls race was decided by the 2-mile marker as Hannah Holstein of Mansfield and Shelby Gordon of Magazine had run away from the pack. Holstein eventually pulled away to win in 20:56. Greenwood dominated the point standings.

The Senior Boys race was won by Ian Carter (17:32) of Greenwood but the real race was between Dylan Brown and Mark Dement of Paris for runner-up. Brown came from 20 yards back in final 200 meters to overtake Dement at the finish line for second place. Greenwood won the senior boys division. {Story submitted by Magazine Coach Randy Bryan)
