8/12/2001...Jodie Mayes of Fayetteville Woodlands won the Youth Division Girls Pole Vault at 2001 AAU Junior Olympics at Norfolk, VA on 8/4/2001 and jumped to No. 6 on the Arkansas All-Time Best Performance Listing with a vault of 11' .25".....Kadi Reid of Mt. 8/9/2001 ...More from Edmonton....In what event did the USA's Kevin Little advance advance with an impressive heat win?  Jonathon Edwards of Great Britain won the triple jump at 58' 9.5"....what place did LSU senior Walter Davis take? Athletes from what country finished 1-2 in the women's 1500 meter run? Their splits were 46.41-66.02-65.76-62.38=4:00.58 with a last 200m in about 29.3....The winner of the men's 800m clocked a swift 1:43.71 which was nearly a second slower than his time of last month.....what country does he represent.... 8/7/2001 ...World Championships continue in Edmonton....USA's Stacy Dragila wins women's pole vault over Svetlana Feofanova of Russia with fewer misses at 15' 7"...narrowly missed at 15' 9.75"....Zhanna Pintusevich-Block of the Ukraine upsets Marion Jones of USA in 100 meters in 10.82 to 10.85....first loss by Jones in 100m finals in 42 attempts dating back to 9/6/1997...USA fails to have a medalist in Men's 400 meter for first time in seven World Championships as Antonio Pettigrew manages only 4th with 44.99....no USA women advanced to finals of 1500 meters as Suzy Favor-Hamilton drops out of Heat 2 with 400m left after being pushed and broke stride badly with 600m left and former LadyBack Sarah Schwald failed to advance from Heat 1....Gabriella Szabo of Romania has best qualifying time in 1500m at 4:07.41.... .....ESPN to carry one hour tonight at 8pm Central and ESPN2 to carry two hours starting at 10pm Central....

8/5/2001 ... We end our one year celebration with the National Fantasy High School Track and Field Results....What state tops the Girl's chart? Did California or Florida take the Boys ...or was it Texas?  We are working on the master CC schedule and getting ready for the season which is now less than a month away!  

Hope everyone is watching the 2001 World Championships from Edmonton, Alberta that runs through next week.  Check out ABC Sports and ESPN2 for coverage this week and next weekend. ESPN or ESPN2 carries during the week...check local listings for times and channels. ABC will cover next Saturday and Sunday from 4-6pm (eastern) each day. Some local notes......Former Hog Brian Wellman jumping for Bermuda advanced to the finals in the Triple Jump with a leap of 16.78 meters...another former Hog, Robert Howard, managed only 15.57m and did not advance....Walter Davis of LSU (he won the NCAA Indoor at Fayetteville last March) won his group with a PR 17.22m to advance to what appears a super final...former LadyBack Sarah Schwald sprinted from 8th to 4th over the last 200m to advance to the 1500m semi-finals out of Heat 4....check out the International Amateur Athletic Federation and the USA Track and Field websites for complete meet results, TV schedules and lots of meet info...

7/24/2001 ...Our one year celebration continues with the Inaugural Fantasy Outdoor Track and Field Results!! Match the classifications/conferences with the scores in our fantasy meet or check out Fantasy Results.....Note:  we scored the top 10 places, split 5A into its four conferences, allowed only the top three Best Performances from each classification/conference and combined 1A and 2A.......

GIRLS.............294.5, 156, 134, 122.5, 110.5, 71.5 and 52....Hint:  1A/2A was in Top 5.

BOYS.............. 251.83, 179, 146.67, 137.5, 83.67, 68.67 and 66.67....Hint: 1st and 7th were same in Girls and Boys.

7/15/2001 ...As we celebrate completion of the first year for ArkansasTrackStats.com we are hard at work getting ready for the next season.....our newest Commentary looks back on the first year and forward to the next...Oops.....we are embarrassed to point out that we left Berryville's Carlos Arrizon out of the Boys 3200m All-Time Best Listings but thanks to Coach Krumwiede for helping us get the info...with Cross-Country season fast approaching we have finally been able to add back to the site the 1999 and 2000 season info...check out Cross-Country.....

7/08/2001 ... See updated Arkansas All-Time Best Performance Listings for most recent updates through 2001 Indoor and Outdoor seasons....work continues on 4x400, Triple Jump and 100/110 hurdles.  We hope to be updating several times over the next week and at least every other week until cross-country season starts....less than two months!! Try to support upcoming races that our cross-country coaches have reported...two of these in August are listed below:

The Eliminator 1K/5K Run/Walk....Saturday, August 25, 2001 ....registration for each starts at 7:00am and races starts at 7:45 am...check for 1K ("flat and fast" for K-5) is at the Frisco Caboose in Downtown Rogers and for the 5K at the Lake Atalanta Park boatshed  area at the foot of The Eliminator....$6 fee for 1K and first 20 boys and first 20 girls to finish will be  awarded medals with all other finishers getting ribbons...first 100 to sign up gets an official Eliminator tee-shirt.....$15 fee for 5K and all get official tee-shirt plus overall winners receive a first class trophy with terrific medals to top three finishers in each age group (male and female separate)....contact Howard Conley, Race Director, at 501- 621-9020         for more info and registration form....race is part of the Rogers Frisco Festival with lots of after race activities. All profits from the races go to benefit the Rogers High School Mounties and Lady Mounties Cross-Country program. Entry form on www.arkansasrunner.com.

The 16th Annual Owens Road Mile will be on Saturday, August 25, 2001 in the Hempwallace community near Lake Hamilton High School. Registration will be at Lake Hamilton High School Field House. 6/24/2001 ...See State AAU Meet Results (Boys and Girls)...a record 461 athletes competed at Vilonia on June 8-9...go to State AAU website at http://www.arkansasaau.org for more info on upcoming events.  Arkansas All-Time Best Performance Listings for 1600m, 3200m, 4x800m and Pole Vault have been updated for 2001 performances....work continues on others and we are researching more performances from prior years and will update as we confirm performances....thanks to all who have sent info in and be sure to notify us of any that you may know of not included.  For those distance runners training for next fall, check out the two meets below for summer challenges and lots of fun:

We will hold open this year's final Best Performances Listings until May 31 and in June will add any remaining performances reported, including Golden West results. 5/19/2001 ...Thanks to Kathy Tadlock at the AAA we now have the complete State Meet results for all classifications and for the Meet of Champs...go to Track and Field/State Meet Results ...Best Performances now includes all reported results posted for SP, Discus and 3200m...we will get the remainder as quickly as we can....also be looking for next week's Decathlon and Heptathlon results as well as updates of the Arkansas All-time Best Listings plus more stats and news over the next few weeks...the meets may be over but there is still lots to cover..check out Commentary for Arkansas athletes who are or will be included in the National DyeStat Elite Listings....

5/16/2001 ...While many of you were enjoying the Meet of Champs we were at work updating State Meet results. All events for all classifications are now updated at Best Perfomances except for the 3200m and the Shot and Discus...some of us would consider this saving the best for last!! We continue to work on updates and will begin to add the MofC results promptly. We also have received a few more conference meets that we will be adding after we get the SMs and MofC updated so stay tuned. Remember the Decathlon and Heptathlon next week.  For all the national HS T&F info check out www.dyestat.com and leave them a message that you learned about them from ArkansasTrackStats. We will continue to add data in follow up to the season for several more weeks before we begin to get ready for cross-country. Expect to see the All-Time Listings as out priority for this summer. Congratulations to all the athletes who competed in the SMs and MofC. Best wishes to all the seniors and we hope you are able to compete in college...we will be watching and rooting for you.  For the returning athletes, there is no time like this summer to start getting ready for the 2001-2002 season.

4/23/2001 ... Slowly but surely we are catching up....all events now posted for results received through 4/21 except 300m hurdles which are in process.....If you do not see times from meets you participated in please fax to us at 501-750-6152 so we can add to the Best Performances...thanks to everyone who sent us results from around the state....let's have a great set of meets this weekend. COACHES: When sending results please indicate whether times are FAT or hand-held...if no indication , then we have to assume the times are hand-held.

Complete results for all State Indoor Meets now posted.....1A/2A/3A, 4A and 5A.....25 new state meet records set....Brandon Hodges of Hot Springs speeds to 1:53.28 in the 800m while teammate James Hamilton cruises to 48.45 in the 400m and the Trojan 4x400 team nails a 3:19.64 clocking as they prepare for next week's Nike High School Meet....Heber Springs takes two wins in 123A Meet while Hot Springs boys and Crossett girls roll to overwhelming wins in 4A....watch for our State Meet Recap to follow....Thanks to the nice folks from Heber Springs who ran the scorers booth for getting us the meet results so quickly...if you appreciated being able to hold your state meets in one of the finest  facilities in the world, let the UofA know that and let Wal-Mart know that their sponsorship of the meets was also much appreciated....Great performances everyone and let's get ready for Outdoor!!! 2/18/2001 ... Best Performances updated for 2/17/01 meet....several notable improvements with notes in the Commentary...Go to USA Track and Field for complete coverage of the Golden Spikes Tour Meet from 2/10/01 in Fayetteville, including interviews of the participants and for the 2/17/01 meet in Pocatello, Idaho where Stacy Dragila set a world record in the women's pole vault at 15" 5"!!! Also, former LadyBack and U.S. Olympian Deena Drossin continued her winning ways with her fourth consecutive U.S. National Cross-Country Championship yesterday over the 8K (4.8+ miles) course in Vancouver, Washington in 40 degrees and mud with a smart time of 26:14 (about 5:19 per mile!)...Deena is off to Ireland for the March World Championships.  Complete results of the US Nationals is at USA Track and Field also....Coaches and Athletes....let us know of any other performances that should be included or if you can give us the first names of athletes whose name we are missing .... let's use these next two weeks wisely and STAY HEALTHY...see you at State!

2/11/2001 ... Check Best Performances reported through 2/9/01....so far there has been a sub 1:55 boys 800m, two 14' pole vaults for the boys and two 11' vaults for the girls, a 6"10 boys high jump, a 7.27 boys 55m hurdles, a 10:18.4 girls 4x800 and a 8:15.3 boys 4x800....this is not to overlook a 50.40 and 50.96 boys 400m, a 3:23.3 boys 4x400 and a 2:23.3 girls 800m......this weekend's meet should be good for more great performances....All-Star Meet XC pictures are finally here.... check out the Commentary for some observations from this weekend's Tyson Invitational and Golden Spike Meet in Fayetteville...Coaches and Athletes....let us know at of any other performances that should be included or if you can give us the first names of athletes whose name we are missing .... have a great meet this coming weekend at Fayetteville...as always, please let us know if we have names misspelled or other wrong data.

Coach Ward at Siloam Springs announces change in dates of Panther Invitational back to 3/27.....El Dorado Wildcats announce their home outdoor schedule.....click here to see schedule changes.....MORE pictures from XC State Meets....4A and 5A race pictures plus 5A team championship pictures ...click here to see the additions.....Coaches and Athletes....since the 2/3/01 meet at Fayetteville was a "practice meet" with no official times and distances published...you are invited to send your team's times and marks (all events, boys and girls) to us for addition to the data base...click here for info on how to send data to us....we are gathering best indoor performances at this time and will try to publish the listings for each event as the marks are received and processed...please check back frequently for updated  results....we are considering offering a couple of items for a nominal fee to cover our costs if there is interest...first, a "suitable for framing" certificate recognizing 2000 XC performances for the athletes...certificate could show name, team, State Meet times and finish, All-State and All-Star status, etc....the second would be a hardcopy "annual" for the 2000 XC season with stats, meet results, etc.....let us know if you think there would be interest in these type items....

1/27/2001 ... Did you know that the National High School Indoor Track and Field Invitational Meet was held in Fayetteville on 1/20?  This must have been one of the least publicized track meets of all times!!   Brandon Hodges of Hot Springs won the Boys 800 in a strong early season time of 1:54.86...Dianne Miller of Pea Ridge brought home a fourth in the Girls 2-Mile  with a 13:11.85 and a fifth in the triple jump at 26' 5.5"....Russellville placed fourth in the Boys 4x800 with a time of 8:37.53....Go to www.flashresults.com for complete results. While there check out results of the SEC Quad Meet run on 1/19 at UA.  This site even reports the jumpers and throwers series for each attempt...neat.  See the Commentary for a book review of a classic for young distance runners and their coaches ... good info for parents wanting to learn more about the art of distance running for young athletes....you might want to check out the Arkansas Activities Association website for info in the October 2000 Board minutes on current Track Committee Recommendations affecting state meet qualifying rules, heat qualifiers for state meet finals and state meet final rotations for the different classifications (day of week)....Wampus Cat Track Meet added to the Outdoor Schedule....and, as promised, MORE STATE MEET XC pictures in the Gallery....only 7 days 'til the first Indoor Meet.

12/19/2000....Check out Commentary for Coaches Comments on Building a Championship Program....Hope you have been enjoying this great running weather we have had the past couple of weeks!! It was "cool" (if you know what I mean) last Saturday running seven miles in snow and ice in 17 degrees with 25 mph headwinds...As former ASU Indian and Pine Bluff Zebra Coach Guy Kochel used to say..."Just the way we like it...70 degrees and the sun is shining..somewhere!"

See the Links for a selection of interesting links including Washington University in St. Louis, a NCAA Division 3 school with a really neat cross country site! The Alert List is also new for those who want email notices of updates to the site.  Under Who We Are you can find new info on privacy and copyrights. The Commentary section is also new and provides a forum for articles of interest, editorials and other observations. Of course, under Cross Country you will find lots of results, best performances and other data from this past fall's season. as well as the 1999 State Cross Country Meet Results.  The Gallery is coming soon with pictures from the 2000 State Cross Country Meets.
